Research Experience:

Prof. Vir Singh has about 35 years’ experience of teaching, research, extension and research supervision. He began his research career in the mountains of the Indian Central Himalayas where he conducted research on grasslands and livestock resources. After his first Ph.D. in major Animal Sciences (Animal Nutrition) his research focus was animal production systems in the mountain areas. Prof. Vir Singh did his post doctoral work at the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) based in Kathmandu and the research focus was draught animal power in mountain agriculture.  Later on he worked on smallholder dairy farms in the mountains in the projects sponsored by ILRI. His second Ph.D. was in Botany with specialization in Rangeland Ecology. Since 2006 he have been teaching and researching at the Department of Environmental Science of the GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology based in the Uttarakhand State of India. He has worked on many projects in collaboration with international institutes including the INNO-ASIA project sponsored by the German Federal Ministry BMBF. He has supervised 35 research projects of students leading them to Masters and Ph.D. Degrees in Environmental Science. He has published 53 books, many monographs, a lab manual and more than 200 research papers, book chapters and general scientific articles. Hie recently published book FERTILIZING THE UNIVERSE (Cambridge Scholars, UK.) proposes a new Theory of Astro-Biological Evolution. Another book titled ENVIRONMENTAL PLANT PHYSIOLOGY (CRC Press Taylor and Francis) attempts to bring out botanical strategies for a climate smart planet.
